Rippling, a workforce management platform, has announced its ambitious international expansion with the opening of its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Sydney, Australia. This move follows recent launches in the United Kingdom and Ireland, where Rippling’s European headquarters are located.
$11.25 Billion Valuation and 15,000 Customers
Rippling, which already boasts a valuation of $11.25 billion and has 15,000 customers worldwide, will invest millions of dollars in its APAC expansion. The company’s co-founder, Parker Conrad, shared this information with TechCrunch. Rippling currently employs 30 people in its Sydney office and plans to aggressively grow its Australian team.
A Competitive Advantage
Conrad highlighted the competitive advantages that Rippling brings to the table, including a broader product suite that includes a finance cloud for tasks like expense reimbursements and paying bills. On the IT side, Rippling can handle device management, single sign-on, and user provisioning on different applications.
Country-Specific Integrations
As Rippling scales in APAC, it will hire a "reasonably large sales team" in Australia to reach out to companies. Conrad emphasized that Rippling wants its system to feel like an Australian system for users in the region, stating, "In each market we’re looking at what are the things we need to integrate with, what are the ways we automate things like retirement benefits, payroll, compliance, and that’s where all of that stuff is very, very country-specific."
A Recipe for Success
Conrad explained how Rippling’s underlying capabilities allow it to assemble a powerful system quickly. He stated, "A lot of the things that we’re building, we don’t actually have to build. We have to assemble almost like a recipe from the underlying capabilities. So that makes it a lot faster and also makes the system more powerful because it means things that would take a long time for a local company to build already exist in Rippling."
A Strong Presence in APAC
Rippling typically works with companies that have up to 1,000 employees but is now closing in on ones with 3,000 employees. Its main rivals include Paycom and Paylocity, which only compete with them in the United States. In Australia, Rippling’s main rival is Employment Hero.
A Growing Market
The Asia-Pacific region presents a significant growth opportunity for Rippling. The company will continue to invest in its APAC expansion, hiring a large sales team and aggressively growing its Australian team. With its competitive advantages and country-specific integrations, Rippling is well-positioned to succeed in the APAC market.
