Doublepoint Introduces WowMouse Gesture-Control App for Pixel Watch 2

DoublePoint

Since October last year, Apple iWatch users have had access to updated features, but as of today at Mobile World Congress (MWC), a startup named DoublePointLab has launched an upgraded version of its popular WowMouse gesture-touch control app specifically for Android smartwatches. The app was initially released at CES in January and now supports Google’s Pixel Watch 2. It has already garnered around 30,000 downloads from Samsung Galaxy users since CES.

The free app creates a "wrist-based" mouse that allows users to control headsets, phones, tablets, computers, and other devices through gestures. The app uses taps on the watch, fed via Bluetooth, to trigger these controls. On his stand at the Four Years From Now section of MWC, founder Ohto Pentikäinen shared insights about the development of the app.

Ohto Pentikäinen explained, "Gestures are a big theme nowadays, with Apple Vision Pro recently being released. We see people doing these pinches all over the streets now! And what we do is make those gestures invisible. We’ve just added gesture detection algorithms that work discreetly so you can use them in your pocket, like you would with a traditional mouse."

The app also supports pinch-to-zoom and pinch-to-select gestures, making it versatile for various tasks. DoublePointLab emphasized the importance of seamless interaction between devices, stating, "Our goal is to enhance user experience by providing intuitive controls that work across multiple platforms without compromising on performance or battery life."

The WowMouse app leverages advanced gesture recognition technology to provide a smooth and responsive user interface. The company has focused on optimizing the algorithms to recognize even the most subtle movements, ensuring that users can interact with their devices effortlessly.

Key features of the updated version include:

  • Smart Gestures: The app recognizes a wide range of gestures, including double-taps, long presses, and combinations of touches.
  • Cross-Device Compatibility: WowMouse works seamlessly with both iOS and Android devices, allowing users to switch between platforms without any issues.
  • Battery Efficiency: The gesture control is designed to be power-efficient, ensuring that the app remains responsive even on lighter devices or during prolonged use sessions.

DoublePointLab has also explored the potential of their gesture technology in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) environments. The company explained, "Our gesture control system is designed to work seamlessly with AR headsets, providing intuitive interaction even in complex 3D spaces."

The app’s ability to recognize hand movements makes it ideal for controlling virtual objects, navigating through digital landscapes, or interacting with interactive displays. DoublePointLab highlighted the benefits of gesture-based controls, stating, "This technology eliminates the need for traditional controllers and allows users to focus more on their experiences in AR and VR environments."

The WowMouse app has established partnerships with several tech companies to enhance its functionality. DoublePointLab has worked closely with hardware manufacturers to integrate the app into a variety of devices, ensuring that it works across different platforms and devices.

For developers interested in integrating gesture control into their apps or wearables, DoublePointLab has provided comprehensive resources and tools to streamline the development process. The company emphasizes a commitment to innovation while maintaining high standards of performance and reliability.

Mike Butcher, a well-known tech journalist from TechCrunch, provided valuable insights into the development and launch of WowMouse at MWC. He explained his role in the app’s creation and emphasized its significance in the competitive landscape of smartwatch apps.

"Butch," as he is affectionately known by his fans, shared, "WowMouse represents a new direction for Android users looking to enhance their device interaction through gesture controls. It’s exciting to see how this technology can evolve over time and bring more innovation to wearables."

Since its launch in January, WowMouse has quickly become a favorite among tech enthusiasts who appreciate the simplicity and versatility of gesture-based controls. With support for multiple devices and robust gesture recognition technology, the app continues to set new standards in the smartwatch industry.

For those interested in trying out WowMouse, DoublePointLab has made it easy to access. The free trial version is available on the Google Play Store, allowing users to experience the benefits of gesture control firsthand. Whether you’re a casual user or an avid tech enthusiast, WowMouse offers a unique way to interact with your devices and enhance your overall experience.

Thank you for joining us at MWC 2024. We look forward to continuing our conversation as we explore the future of technology and innovation together."
